“God’s definition of what matters is pretty straightforward.
He measures our lives by how we love.”
Who We Are
We are homemakers, factory workers, business leaders, college students, and children. We are young, middle-aged, and senior citizens. We are mothers, fathers, daughters, and sons. We are seekers, new believers, and the deeply faithful who have opened our hearts to follow God’s prompting.
We’re just like you. Our hearts are moved to care for God’s people and to be a part of something greater than ourselves.
“Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.
Whether you’re seeking mission trip opportunities in Haiti for yourself, your family, or a group of like-minded brothers and sisters in Christ, Healing Haiti offers experiences to create radical change both in us and through us.
One Bucket/One Heart at a Time
We sent more than 1,200 short-term missionaries to Haiti last year. We deliver about 2.8 million gallons of fresh water each year — one bucket at a time. We’ve built a school that has provided an education to more than 400 children. We’ve planted Grace Church in Titanyen and Hope Church in Cite Soleil – two of the most impoverished areas in Haiti. We see more than 200 patients and expectant mothers a year at our medical/dental clinic and care for 30 orphaned elderly bringing them water, food, and the love of human touch each day.
On our short-term missions in Haiti you will, indeed, have a chance to help relieve suffering and soothe aching hearts. But, you’ll also be a part of an organization that is providing long-term solutions. We employ Haitians at our facilities in Port-au-Prince and Titanyen. We’re also creating businesses, such as a bakery and a pizza restaurant that will provide jobs. This sustainability will help Haitians support and unify their families. We never lose sight of our purpose: “The world is a better place when families are strengthened.”
Job Creation in Haiti Keeps Families Together
God planned for us to be part of a family. Our focus is on helping Haitians help themselves so they can keep their families together. With a 70 percent unemployment rate, many mothers and fathers find making a commitment to a family structure challenging. We want to help break the cycle of parents abandoning their children or giving them to orphanages or into child slavery. We believe that we can help do that by creating jobs.
“People in Haiti don’t want handouts. They want jobs. I’m proud to be a man who has money to take care of his family, to have money in my pocket to give to his wife to go the market. It’s important as a man to have dignity, to be able to hold your head up. My job has provided that to me.’’
Solomon, of Titanyen, a husband, and father.
A Different Experience
Some people tell us they’d like to do missionary work in Haiti, but are afraid their hearts would break when they come face-to-face with the extreme poverty and suffering. Here’s our response: We can only imagine God’s heartbreaking everyday for what we see. Maybe it’s ok that your heart breaks. That way, God can put it back together again in a way the more closely resembles His. This experience can create a love that will fill you up and then spill back out in ways you never imagined.
