Founders
Healing Haiti’s founder, Alyn Shannon, and her husband Jeff first visited Haiti in 2006 and watched as God “broke their hearts wide open.” Together, they responded by stepping out in faith on behalf of the most vulnerable in Haiti and founding Healing Haiti in 2007.

2006
The First Trip to Haiti.
After years of supporting ministry in Haiti, Jeff and Alyn Gacek visit Haiti for the first time. God breaks their hearts and births what would become Healing Haiti.
2007
The Dream Begins.
Land cleared for the future Grace Village dorms and feeding center. 3 million gallons of water are delivered to to Cite Soleil. Reiser Heights school is completed and 10 missionaries travel to Haiti.
2008
Ten Mission Trips to Haiti.
Land cleared for Grace Village dorms and feeding center. Healing Haiti’s Elder Care program established and 10 short-term missionaries serve in Haiti.
2009
Construction Begins.
Grace Village construction begins with a vision to provide Christ-centered orphan care for Haiti’s most vulnerable children. 35 short-term missionaries serve in Haiti.
2010
The Haitian Earthquake.
A magnitude 7.0 earthquake rocks Haiti to its core, killing hundreds of thousands, leaving families torn apart and having over a million people homeless. 65 people travel with Healing Haiti to help relieve suffering.
2011
Grace Village Opens.
Grace Village opens as a “City On A Hill” where the light of Jesus can shine brightly throughout the surrounding communities. Grace becomes a home to 40 children. 200 short-term missionaries visit Haiti.
2012
Grace Academy Opens.
Grace Academy opens, educating over 300 students in the community of Titanyen. Guesthouse number 2 is built in Delmas 31, expanding Healing Haiti’s capacity to host mission trips. 600 missionaries serve in Haiti.
2013
Ministry Expansion.
Ground is broken for Grace Village Family Homes, Grace Clinic, and Grace Church in Titanyen, ministries that would eventually minister the love and hope of Jesus to thousands. 900 short-term missionaries serve in Haiti.
2014
Grace Church & Clinic.
Grace Clinic opens with full-time Haitian medical staff and Grace Church opens its doors. Grace Village transitions its converts its model to family homes, so that children can truly experience “home”.
2015
Hope Church.
Hope Church, Cite Soleil construction begins. Ground is broken for Fleri Bakery in Titanyen. 120 full-time jobs are created, impacting hundreds of people.
2016
Let there be hope!
Hope Church opens its doors bringing the light of Christ into Cite Soleil. Hope School opens with kindergarten and adult literacy classes. 1200 missionaries travel to Haiti.
2017
Job Creation in Motion.
Fleri Restaurant and Bakery is established with 25 employees. 28 acres is purchased to create Fleri Farms, which would eventually provide fresh produce to our feeding centers in Cite Soleil and Titanyen.
2018
Hope Clinic.
Hope Clinic opens, providing hope and healing to thousands of children, expectant mothers, and elders living in the Western Hemisphere’s poorest community. Over 1,200 missionaries serve through Healing Haiti.
2019
Feeding Centers.
Hope School Innovation Center opens in Cite Soleil. Cite Soleil feeding center serves 135,000 meals to students, the elderly, and vulnerable families.
2020
Fleri Farm: A New Vision.
Despite a global pandemic, Fleri Bakery produces 7 million pieces of bread during a time of increased food insecurity.
Fleri Farm introduces its community farming program with 100 families having access to land to create farming businesses.
2021
Haiti No Matter What.
Going forward in faith and building Healing Haiti’s relational capital in the communities we serve to make sustainable imacts and improving the lives of over 5,000 familes.
2022
Standing Strong.
As Haiti’s government dissolved and up to 80% of nonprofits left the country, our 180+ Haitian staff continued faithfully serving Haiti’s most vulnerable.
2023
Despite escalating violence and instability, Healing Haiti remained fully operational—keeping schools open, water flowing, jobs intact, and medical care accessible.
2024
With record clinic visits and expanded job creation, God’s provision sustained our ministry as we served more families than ever in some of Haiti’s darkest days.
2025
Healing Haiti continues moving forward in faith—expanding outreach, growing discipleship, and standing anchored in hope for Haiti’s future.
