50% of adults in Haiti are unable to read or write.
Children are Haiti’s greatest hope for a better future. But only about half of grade school age children attend school. Most communities do not have government run schools so privately run schools are the only option. Even though the cost is minimal by US standards, most Haitian parents can not afford to send their children to school.
Healing Haiti supports over 1,000 children in three schools. Reiser Heights in Lespinasse, Terra Promise in Cite Soleil and The Christian School for Poor Children in Titanyen. We help to raise funds to pay teachers salaries so that school fees can be low enough to allow even the poorest families to send their children to school.
In addition to providing education for students, Healing Haiti has also constructed classrooms, built school benches and given assistance for school uniforms, school and medical supplies, food and clean water.
School for a year in Haiti, along with providing two uniforms, shoes and back back averages $200 US per child.

| Paying teachers salaries allows even the poorestfamilies to send their children to school. An average monthly salary for a secondary teacher is $70 a month or $700 per school year. |
