According to UNICEF, only 30% of Haitians have access to safe drinking water and adequate sanitation. Without clean water, even if they have food, children die from malnutrition because of parasites and bacteria in their unsafe drinking water cause nutrients to flush out of them through diarrhea.
In Cite Soleil, the poorest slum in the western hemisphere, Healing Haiti is delivering fresh water, bucket by bucket to thousands of families each day, 6 days a week, without charge... people who have no electricity, no toilets and no running water.
Healing Haiti runs a water truck that delivers 364,000 gallons of chlorinated water every month. That equals 87,000 gallons every week. Healing Haiti delivers each five gallon bucket of water for less than 3.5¢, while at the same time employing 4 Haitians to run and manage the truck so they can provide for their families.
